Dear Client,

Thank you for choosing Applied Building Science Inc. to conduct a comprehensive home assessment of your home.

In order to provide you with the best possible evaluation, we ask that you take the following steps before we arrive:

  1. Please jot down any additional thoughts about the symptoms that concern you, even if they seem trite or unrelated.  Even excessive dust, water stains or odd odors can be vital clues of air leakage or moisture intrusion into the home’s shell.

  2. Please allocate 2 hours for our standard evaluation. Our assessment typically takes a minimum of 1-1/2 hours, depending upon the size of the home. Conducting a scan with our infrared camera will take additional time. If you have time constraints, please advise us and we can re-schedule the evaluation for a more convenient arrangement.

  3. Our evaluation requires us to visit all areas within your home. We will be in every room and storage area, including attic, basement, crawl space, under kitchen and bathroom sinks, etc. If you feel some of this area should be off-limits, please advise us ahead of time so we can discuss their impact on the accuracy of the assessment.

  4. Please move all clothing, including furniture, away from access hatches to the upper attic, knee wall, and crawl space. We need to inspect all areas of the building shell. We have our own ladders, flashlights and drop cloths. If you leave clothing in the closet of an attic access, we suggest you cover the clothing with plastic sheeting.

  5. Please take care of small children and pets so that they are safe during the evaluation. There are some pieces of test equipment that could cause serious injury if a small hand or paw makes its way through the protective cage.

  6. We will be bringing some large test equipment into your home. We would like to have a clear staging area inside the entry door for setting up the equipment.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call us.

Thank you.
